Last Winter BINGO TONIGHT!

Tonight (12/18) is the LAST Winter BINGO at Kappy's!
Last week, the Don Wee Now Team cleaned up!
They took an incredible 4 of 6 games!
This is simply unheard of!
Will their reign of terror continue tonight?

Another weird thing from last week's BINGO
is that we had someone win after only 4 numbers
were called!
HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!?!
We tripled checked and yes, they won with only 4 numbers called!
I think we will see that happen again as soon as someone gets
the exact price on TPIR Showcase Showdown again!

Tonight's BINGO is going to be off the hook!
First, the best steel drum band in the land,
Apocalypso is going play at 7pm.
It is FREE and they will have their new CD,
MicroBurst, for sale.
This is a perfect stocking stuffer!

Then BINGO starts at 8pm.
BASS beer is the sponsor tonight.
YAH!
The first card is still FREE
but we are asking people to donate 2 cans
of food (or $1.00) to The Community
Food Bank for the second card.

So, who will be the team to beat tonight?
Will it be Team McLovin'?
Team Tecate?
The Band?
The Wailing Wenches?
The only way to find out is to come on out to
Kappy's

Peter Falk may have Alzheimer's Disease

According to reports today, Peter Falk's daughter, Catherine,
filed legal papers in Los Angeles claiming her father
"requires full-time custodial care for his health and safety."
It seems that he is suffering from Alzheimer's disease and
dementia and she is afraid that he could be easily deceived.

It makes me sad to hear this news.
When I was little, I wanted to be Columbo more than anything.
I would watch the show and act like him.
I BEGGED for a coat just like Columbo's, so I could be more like him.
When I FINALLY got the coat, I still was not happy.
This trench coat was not the same. It wasn't wrinkled like Columbo's,
in fact it was very crisp. My mother, probably at her wit's end,
rolled the coat into a ball, put it under a couch cushion and told me to sit
on the cushion for 10 minutes.
It worked! My coat now looked just like Columbo's!
I bet my mom was overjoyed that the new coat that she just bought me
looked like it was run over by a truck!
I happily grabbed my coat and magnifying glass (who knows why since
Columbo didn't have one) and went out into the neighborhood in
search of crimes. Alas, my boring neighborhood never had a crime
to solve but that never stopped me!
When my friends and I went to New York City in 2006,
Kristin HAD to go to Live with Regis and Kelly.
I went with her while Kathy went to the Today Show
and Nancy slept in. We didn't have tickets and were the last ones
allowed in from the wait list. I would have been sad for Kristin
if we didn't get in but I would have been okay.
Then, they announced the guests.
One of the guests
on Live with Regis and Kelly was
PETER FALK!!
I couldn't believe my luck!
We were in the last row but I didn't care!
Here are some photos from that most excellent day.
The first is from where Regis grabbed Peter's book off the table and dumped
a cup on the floor. I have never seen so many people deal with one broken cup.
The second is from where he was leaving the stage.
The last one was when his limo was leaving. He signed autographs for a while.
Of course, I had nothing for him to sign but that was okay.
I met one of my childhood heroes that day.
My heart goes out to Peter Falk and his family.

The El Tour de Tucson is a terrific bike race around Tucson.
Literally, on the streets of Tucson.

Bridal Tip #1

Sometimes, lacing and bustling the dress is harder than it looks.
So, take the lacing/bustling person, Maid of Honor for example, with you to the final fitting.
That way the MOH gets to do a run through before the Big Day and ask any questions about lacing and bustling. You might want to take some photos with your cell phones for extra help.
On the Big Day, it is easy to forget the directions and the photos really help.
In this case, Nancy's Matron of Honor did most of the lacing with Nancy's mom coming in to tie the bow.
It was a win-win!

Sam and Ray are too cute!

I was lucky enough to take photos of Sam and Ray the other day.

The boys were back in town and ready for their closeups.

Maggie and Garret are raising two of the cutest, smartest boys ever.

In this photo, the boys are catching up on their sports scores before they hit the sack.

FINALLY, I am in The Guinness World Book of Records!

Ever since I watched The Brady Bunch growing up, I had to be like Bobby and Cindy and try to get into The Guinness World Book of Records. My friend Beth and I would read our copies of The Guinness World Book of Records and try and figure out which record could we break. Which ones could we do over summer vacation and how hard it would be?

And more importantly, could we get our parents behind this project? Would they bring us food and water and let us stay up past our bedtime during our attempt? There was a lot of planning on this project. But alas, I never did break a record!

UNTIL NOW!!!!!!!!!

The last day of The Math, Science, Technology FunFest, we attempted to break the old record of simultaneous launch of rubberband-powered paper airplanes.

2,300 kids of all ages went out to The Tucson Community Center parking lot with our individually numbered airplanes and waited for the countdown.

Would we have enough to break the old record? And what was the old record?
Some airplanes went into orbit a little early but at least 1,800 were launched at the same time.

WE DID IT!!!

Finally, I am going to be in The Guinness World Book of Records!
YEAH!!! I can't believe it!

I AM IN!

The next day, I got up early and bought a newspaper.
Clearly, this important event would be covered by the media.
And there it was on the front page of the Arizona Daily Star, a big photo and article about us breaking the record!

Check it out.

I quickly read the article and found out that the old record was 88 planes.
WHAT?!?!?!
88????
ONLY 88????
AAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!

I could have organized my elementary school and beat that record YEARS ago!!
Why didn't we see this record in our books? WHY???

Well, my depression quickly lifted when I realized that while I didn't break any records when I was a child, I broke one on November 7, 2008 at 11:30am.

And that made me smile!

When does the 2009 edition come out?

Math, Science, Technology FunFest

Last week, I had to great pleasure of exhibiting at the Math, Science, Technology FunFest.

The FunFest is this terrific Tucson event where schoolchildren (mostly grades 4-8) come to the Tucson Community Center to see math, science, technology in action and hopefully get them to take more math and science in school.

The Arizona International Film Festival goes each year to teach kids math through the use of film and get them interested in attending college.

It is 3 days of fun!

We got a GREAT booth this year. Our booth was twice as big as last year and between the Phun Physics Guys (a crowd favorite) and Make Your Own Silly Putty (another favorite). I could not ask for a better location! And to top it off, we were next to the soda bottle rocket guys, which was great if you never looked up. (The rockets would land in my booth from time to time and as your mom says "could poke your eye out!")

We teach them that there are 24 frames of film per second of film viewing.

Then we do different math problems with them like, if The Chronicles of Narnia is 2 hours and 12 minutes long, how many frames is that?

ANSWER below-don't cheat, see if you can answer it first.

The kids make every day of the FunFest "Super Fun!"
They ask terrific questions, are super polite and are just great to be around.
And I have to admit it that I love when kids come to my booth because they heard it was one of the "good" booths.

I can't wait for next year!

Answer- 190,080 frames

Happy Veteran's Day and Thanks!

Okay, so this post is a little late.

Thank goodness that the men and women protecting our country are never late
or we would be in trouble.

America would not be where it is today without the brave men and women
protecting us here and abroad.

So, even though it is past Veteran's Day, it not too late to thank a Veteran.

THANK YOU!!!

IGNITE TUCSON LIT UP THE HOUSE!

Last night, IGNITE TUCSON lit up The Screening Room!

It was a fun filled night.

The best part of the night was the sense of sharing and community.

Happy Anniversary to Bailey and me!

Yesterday was my Wonderlab Bailey and my anniversary!

I adopted her 7 years ago from the Southern Arizona Humane Society.
And I am very lucky.
She is the best dog ever!
Besides being super smart, she is super nice, super cute and super funny.
As you can tell, I am completely unbias!
She is now 11.5 years old and still going strong.

This photo is something her and I created when one of our friends was sick.
It makes me laugh everytime I look at it.
I still can't believe that Bailey balanced the doctor's hat on her head as long as she did.

I love the Humane Society for all that they do!
Check them out, your best friend is waiting!

I am on TV!

I am involved with the Arizona International Film Festival.
It is the largest and longest film festival in the state of Arizona.
It is a terrific festival and people come from all over the world to present their films and to attend.

The good people over at IFASA (Independent Filmmakers Assoc. of S. AZ)
invited me the summer to talk to the group about getting into film festivals.
What a honor!
So, if you are in Tucson, I am on tonight! at 5pm-6pm
or next Monday at 9pm or next Thursday at 5pm.
Cox channel 98 (maybe 72 or 73 check them all)
Comcast 120
My talk is called "Getting Into Film Festivals"
and it is on "The IFASA Show"

Can't get a plane ticket to get to Tucson in time?
Watch me on line!
http://access.tucson.org/whatsontv/watch_online/
but you have to watch at the same time the show is on.

It is fun to watch even if you are not a filmmaker!
So, catch it and tell me what you think!

Marc Broussard's Concert

Kathy, Elo and I went to the Marc Broussand concert last night at Hotel Congress.
And what a concert that was!
Marc and his band played their guts out last night!
I could not believe the energy and love they poured into their music.
What is even more amazing is that Marc and his band are going to be
on Jay Leno tonight.
You would think if you were going to perform on the Tonight Show,
you would save a little for it.
Not Marc! He played like this was the most important concert in his life.
It was a terrific concert and everyone was on their feet all night.

Check out what Hotel Congress says on their site about him. http://www.hotelcongress.com/2008/08/13/marc-broussard/

Then tune into the Tonight Show tonight-YOU WON"T BE SORRY!

Out of This World Signing!

I had the great honor of photographing astronaut John Young's signing this week at
Nova Space Gallery

It is a really neat place that specializes in Space Memorabilia and Authentic Astronaut Autographs.

They schedule astronauts to come into their store and sign photos, baseballs, whatever clients send in for the astronauts to autograph.

One of the services they offer is you can paid extra and you get a photo of the astronaut signing your item! How cool is that? There will never be a question if the autograph is real or not.

Well, I have photographed astronauts

Harrison Schmitt

Dave Scott

Frank Borman

Mike Collins

for the gallery (with Jim McDivitt popping in to say hi to his friends)

This week I got to photograph astronaut John Young again.

What a THRILL!

John Young was the 1st person to fly into space 6 times, including journeys to the Moon twice.

He is the only person to have piloted in space four different classes of spacecraft: Gemini spacecraft, Apollo Command/Service Module, Apollo Lunar Module and Space Shuttle.

After 42 years with NASA, he retired in 2004 but he still attends the Monday Morning Meetings.

It is always a great honor and super fun to hang out with the astronauts during their signings.

I can't wait for the next one!

Nancy & Brad - The Wedding

Tucson is the perfect city for outdoor weddings.

Besides the great views of 4 mountain ranges, you have the terrific weather.

Well, most days.

Nancy & Brad had planned a beautiful outdoor wedding at La Mariposa but forgot to tell the rain gods of their plans. The clouds rolled in early in the day and it looked like "Plan B" might be happening. Well, a little time and luck later and the outdoor wedding of Nancy's dreams was on!

Actually, it could have poured down and it would not have damped Nancy & Brad's spirits.

They were so happy, they lit up the crowd.

Congratulations!

Brian & Cassy - The Wedding

What a perfect day!

One could not ask for better weather for this terrific outdoor ceremony.

Everything just seemed to fall in place as Brian and Cassy said their vows surrounded by friends and family.

Later at the reception, the celebration began.

The groomsman Ryan paid off his bet and did the Hokey Pokey to everyone's delight!

Everyone danced the night away.

Congrats to the lovely couple.

Brian & Cassy Get Engaged!

Yeah! Brian & Cassy Got Engaged!

Sometimes when you meet a couple, you just know it is right.

Well, Brian and Cassy is one of those couples!

Everyone was thrilled and not so surprised when they decided to get married.

Congrats! Can't wait for your wedding!
